Horseshoe Magick

magick and symbolism is something that I enjoy practicing and learning about. This post is all about the lucky and protective HORSESHOE.

The horseshoe is widely popular, the use and belief of their power spans many cultures, especially as a protective amulet. The charms, images/art, and actual iron horseshoes have been regarded as a lucky talisman since (maybe even before) Ancient Greece. It is believed that when hung above the doorway it prevents evil from entering the home. The direction that it should be hung is debatable, some cultures say upright is better because it keeps your luck from falling out, others believe prongs down help to pour the luck into you, so do whatever feels right to you. The shape of the horseshoe may contribute to its lucky and protective energy, often likened to the shape of the crescent moon or the horns of a bull.

✨Find an used horseshoe anoint it with an oil of your choice, hang it above your door to keep the bad spirits out✨

Honey Jars

Honey Jars

This is a pretty popular topic when it comes to African American folk magick, honey jars are meant to make life a little sweeter.

Use a honey jar spell to:

  • To promote love
  • Bring favor in a situation
  • Make someone nicer to you
  • Strengthen relationships
  • Persuade someone to do something you want

The idea is that by using something sweet you are sympathetically (making connections between non-magical items to work your magick) encouraging something sweet to happen.

Other sweet things you can use:

  • Sugar (works faster than honey)
  • Syrup
  • Molasses
  • Candies
  • And other sweeteners like stevia, agave nectar, and fruit juices

Okay so you want to make a honey (or other sweetener) jar to encourage joy, harmony, and tender loving feelings in your life.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • First write a petition, which is a wish/request written on paper (brown paper bag). Do some research and you will find many traditional ways to write petitions in hoodoo. Personally I favor creativity when it comes to this, so for love I may write my petition in a heart shape or use colors that correspond with my spell.
  • Next get a jar (cleanse it using sage or anything you use to cleanse your tools, charge it with intent), put your petition in here with whatever herbs/roots/flowers/oils you’re using. You can also add other things for aesthetic like confetti or glitter or sprinkles, be creative.
  • Last add your honey or sweetener. Place a lid on top.

Other things to do with your honey jar:

  • You can burn candles on top to charge or recharge the spell.
  • By shaking the jar you can get the spell moving forward.
  • If everything you put in the jar is edible you can use the honey for cooking, tea or whatever. Or just taste when you want a quick boost of sweetness.
  • Pray over the jar or meditate with intent.

Remember magick doesn’t work overnight, it takes time especially with a slow moving medium like honey.

Crossed Conditions and Uncrossing

I practice an eclectic blend of magick, mostly hoodoo because it’s orgins are close to my own and although I’ve never heard of anyone in my family who worked roots I definitely would not be surprised. Because of my love for the spiritual practice of Hoodoo, I will be sharing some of the practices here on my blog.

Today’s Hoodoo Topic: Crossing and Uncrossing

When you are crossed or crossing someone this is magick of ill intent, stemming from anger, jealousy, and unresolved conflict.

To uncross is to lift the effects of a cross or in other words a hex, jinx, or curse. In Hoodoo this is referred to ‘removing cross conditions’.

How do you know if you’ve been crossed:
When you have been crossed you will notice a sudden change in luck, an unexpected turn for the worst. Sometimes a crossed condition is not something placed on you by a angered practitioner but a result of your own self-undoing, either by a build up of negative energy or by surrounding yourself with people who don’t have your best interest in mind. Either way, you will feel hopeless, everything you try fails, you are blocked and stuck in life, it can also manifest as sickness in the body.

If you think you might be going through this, it is very helpful to get a reading done because it can be anything from astrology transits, past life trauma, etc. Learn more about my divination services, here.

Uncrossing is the removal of the crossed condition replaced with positive energy, love, and new opportunities. To uncross yourself (or someone else) you must first look into shadow work, to uncover how these conditions stems from you, heal the inner child and unresolved negative or stagnant energies in yourself. Once you understand the root of your condition, release the pain by anointing a candle with uncrossing oils or oils that bring peace. Next you will want to take a spiritual bath and cleanse the home with an uncrossing floor bath. Repeat the floor wash, spiritual bath for seven days or until you start feeling the effects of your crossed condition leave your body/home.

After you have successfully removed the crossed conditions, make protection a priority! Especially if your crossing was done by an outside source.

And that’s all I have on Crossing and Uncrossing for today, if you would like to know some ways to cross someone up send me a message!
