On a scale of 1-10 how stressed are you? 1 being the calmest and 10 being “I’m gonna blow!!” Right now I’m about a 4, not too bad, but a couple of days ago I was a 10+, yep I was literally loosing my mind trying to keep up with the demands of being a Mom, working a full time job, and then on top of that try to buy my family all the things I thought they would love for Christmas. Needless to say I needed to do some de-stressing activities, which helped me calm down and realize that no holiday is worth stressing over.
We all deal with stress, our society is full of stressors. Everyday brings a new worry or something to stress about. From stressful work environments, stressful relationships, bills and traffic, we’ve all got something that we stress about. Now add family drama, money issues, and the overall craziness of the holidays and you have a lot of stressed out people. The thing is, some people deal with stress better than others and some don’t deal with it at all.
Here are some simple ways that I use to deal with my stress:
-Breathe. This is number one, it’s so critical to our bodies that we breathe correctly (through the nose into the abdomen). Try this: stand straight feet slightly apart take a really deep breath, image you feet are roots planting in the earth, take another deep breath and repeat until you start feeling calm. This is called “grounding” and it’s super helpful for when you need to center yourself.
-Meditate. I think every school should incorporate meditation into the curriculum, it’s such a necessary tool in de-stressing. Right now I’m a meditate “per diem” or as needed type of person, so if I feel like I’ve had all I can take I set the mood (dim lighting, soft music, etc) and I make myself meditate. I aim to be the meditate everyday on schedule type of person but I’m still a work in progress.
-Smudge. Smudging is the ritual performed by burning dried sage or other herbs to produce an energy cleaning smoke. Using your hand or more traditionally a feather you waft the smoke around, into the corners, on the walls and over objects and even yourself and others. You should be praying away the negativity while doing it.
-Journal, this one is sort of a preventive measure for me when it comes to stress, because most of my stress comes from feeling overwhelmed with all of the tasks I set out to do, my bullet journal helps to keep me on top of my duties and accountable too. It’s such a stress reliever to be able to look back at all the things I have already accomplished and plan to accomplish written down in ink. If you would love to see more of my bujo I definitely would love to share it with you guys!
