Creating covers for books has always been a goal for me, I want to be able to work with authors to bring their books to life. This project gave me the confidence to be able to offer book design as a freelance service. In this project I took a novel by Maya Angelou ‘I know why the Caged Bird Sings’ and created a fresh new cover. I wanted a mixed media/collage feel which I accomplished by combining photos, cut out images in illustrator along with photography and illustrations that I created. This project was very fulfilling because Maya Angelou comes from the same small town as I and is a huge inspiration for me.
